First up, a good primer from the NYT on the business of ad retargeting, featuring a peek at some of the big players in the space, as well as some of the controversies surrounding the more daring implementations of retargeting. The piece describes one web user who was followed around the internet, getting harassed by banner ads urging her to buy a pair of shoes that she has looked at previously on Zappos. As one quote in the article asks: “What is the benefit of freaking customers out?”
